blogathonbiggercropI’m passionate about writing and WordPress.

I believe that content is king.

Writing

My whole life has been devoted to the written word. In addition to technical support documentation and website copy, I’ve created content for a variety of blogs and other online resources. I served as the Director of Public Relations for the Village of Webberville during the community efforts to prevent gravel mining and then through incorporation, and drafted all press releases and lobbying materials distributed to State of Texas legislators. I have served as a staff writer for the Austin-based Working Stiff Journal and the University of Missouri-Columbia’s student newspaper The Maneater. In my free time I am a fiction writer and have written three novels and a number of short stories.

I hold a BA in English (Creative Writing emphasis) and an MA in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Information Architecture & Social Media

I have considerable experience managing Facebook groups and Twitter accounts for companies and organizations, and have moderated a number of online forums. (In other words, I know how to deal with trolls!) I have completed undergraduate and graduate coursework in information architecture and digital advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. I also served on the UT Refresh committee that redesigned the UT website and branding in 2010.

WordPress

I’ve been using WordPress since 2008, and in this time I’ve built sites and provided support to users in a variety of ways, including classes, one-on-one training, and support for users on WordPress.com. As a co-organizer of WordPress Austin, I regularly organize meetups and present on a number of topics, and have served on every year’s WordCamp Austin organizing committee.
